Terms of Use
Effective: {EFFECTIVE_DATE}. These terms govern your use of the hosted Citavo service provided by {LEGAL_ENTITY}.
⚠️ Template for review. Have a qualified lawyer review and adapt this before you rely on it.
1. Acceptance
By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you use the service for an organisation, you confirm you may bind it.
2. The service
Citavo lets you add documents and get an AI assistant that answers questions grounded in them, with a hosted chat page, an embeddable widget, an API, and slide-deck export. Features and limits depend on your plan.
3. Your account
Keep your credentials secure and don’t share your account. You are responsible for activity under your account and for any API tokens or embed keys you create.
4. Your content & rights
You keep ownership of the documents and content you add. You grant us the limited rights needed to store, process, and transmit that content to operate the service on your behalf (including sending relevant excerpts to the AI provider you use). You represent that you have the rights to the content you add and that it does not infringe others’ rights or break the law.
5. Acceptable use
Don’t use the service to: break the law; upload content you have no right to; store others’ personal data without a lawful basis; generate illegal, harmful, hateful, or deceptive content; attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorised access; or resell the hosted service without permission.
6. AI output — no guarantees
Answers, summaries, images, and audio are AI-generated and may be inaccurate or incomplete. They are not professional advice (legal, medical, financial, or otherwise). Verify anything important before relying on it. You are responsible for how you use AI output.
7. Third-party AI providers
The service works with third-party AI providers (ours by default, or your own key). Their processing is subject to their terms and privacy policies. If you bring your own key, you are responsible for your account and costs with that provider.
8. Plans, billing & cancellation
Paid plans are billed through Stripe on a recurring basis until cancelled. You can cancel anytime from the billing portal; access continues until the end of the paid period. Fees are non-refundable except where required by law. We may change pricing with reasonable notice.
9. Availability
We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may modify or discontinue features.
10. Disclaimers & liability
The service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. To the maximum extent permitted, {LEGAL_ENTITY} is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid in the 12 months before the claim.
11. Termination
You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms.
12. Self-hosting & open source
The Community edition may be self-hosted under its published open-source licence; the Enterprise edition is licensed separately. These hosted-service terms apply to the hosted service at {DOMAIN}; self-hosting is governed by the applicable software licence.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of {GOVERNING_LAW}, and disputes are subject to the courts of {JURISDICTION}, except where mandatory consumer law provides otherwise.
